Family of Dealerships

Chris Draft, a retired NFL player, recently spoke as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month in Piqua, Ohio. During his career, Draft played with the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, and Carolina Panthers. Now, he is the NFL ambassador and spokesperson for lung cancer.

Draft’s Involvement

Lung cancer has been close to Draft’s heart since 2010 when his girlfriend, Keasha Rutledge, developed stage IV lung cancer. She was previously a dancer with the Charlotte Hornets Honeybees, was getting ready to run a 10K, a non-smoker, and in perfect health, so the cancer came as a surprise. Draft and Rutledge began Team Draft at their wedding in 2011 with the goal of fighting lung cancer. Rutledge died a month later at age 38.

Four women here in the Piqua, Ohio, community were recently honored by the Piqua Rotary Club. These women received the 2017 Pride of Workmanship Award. According to Piqua Rotary Club Chairman, Randi Pearson, since the award began locally in 1999, 90 people have received it. The program began during a Rotary Club meeting in 1975 in Australia. The original goals were promoting vocational service, encouraging a sense of pride for workmanship in every vocation, and allowing Rotary to become involved in the local business community.

It is important to note that the 2017 Pride of Workmanship Award is not the result of competition. It is given to individuals to honor and recognize their commitment and achievement. The Rotary President, Sean Ford, gave each recipient an engraved plaque. Before the presentation, Dr. Doreen M. Larson outlined her thoughts on the importance of hard work as well as how the recipients demonstrate virtues like persistence and dedication.
